Hello!

As your South Dakota School for the Deaf Outreach Consultant, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you information about myself and about the services and support that I can offer your school and educational team.

 

My name is Nina Ringstmeyer and I have a master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Deaf Education.  As your Outreach Consultant, I am able to work with schools, families and students to help support children that have been identified as deaf or hard of hearing as well as help schools and families navigate setting up audiology appointments, school-wide screenings and understanding audiology reports.  I am knowledgeable in speech and language disorders, deaf education, early childhood development, audiology and special education.  In addition, we provide services locally (in district) and at no charge.

SDSD Outreach Consultants can provide personnel with options and guidance on best practices such as:

  • Peer and teacher training
  • Equipment/technology management (hearing aids, personal and soundfield systems, BAHAs, and cochlear implants)
  • Classroom observation
  • American Sign Language (ASL) support
  • Consultation (IEPs, IFSPs, 504 Plans, Service Plans)
  • Resources and curricula
  • Language development
  • Communication Opportunities
  • Learning environments and strategies

 

SDSD also provides the following services:

  • Three-year multidisciplinary evaluations: comprised of a group of highly qualified professionals who have decades of experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing and those with additional disabilities.
  • Audiological testing: individual hearing tests conducted at the SDSD Clinics in Sioux Falls or Rapid City
  • Mobile lab services: Mass hearing tests conducted on-site at a school location
  • Online or onsite ASL Classes: Focused on SDSD students and their educational team
